Petrol Ofisi closed the year 2008 by TL 105 million net profit

Considering the 12-months financial statements of the year 2008 prepared in accordance with the international financial reporting standards, Petrol Ofisi, the leader of Turkish fuel distribution sector maintains its strong operational performance increasingly.

Net sales of Petrol Ofisi realized as TL 17.202 million (USD 13.257 million); and profit before interest, tax and depreciation increased by 46% to TL 941 million (USD 725 million) when compared to the same period of the last year. On the other hand, net profit of the Company was TL 105 million despite the foreign currency conversion losses arising as a result of depreciation of Turkish Lira.

Melih Türker, CEO of Petrol Ofisi stated that they had displayed a great performance in 2008 against the negative effects of the financial crisis arose in USA and penetrated into the economies all around the world and added “Petrol Ofisi continues to create added value for Turkish economy through its customer satisfaction oriented products and services”.

Türker evaluated the reflections of global developments of 2008 on Petrol Ofisi and the sector: “Oil prices floated exceedingly and peaked in 2008. Oil prices which increased up to USD 146 during the upward trend of the first half, showed significant decreases in the second half. During the second half of the year, significant shrink arose in the distribution sector especially in parallel with the decrease in the industrial production beginning from September. Moreover, fuel distribution sector was also affected negatively by the exchange difference like many other sectors. However, we, as Petrol Ofisi increased our market share in the white products to 29.4% despite all these negativities. And our market share in the black products realized as 60.5%.”

Türker, CEO of Petrol Ofisi said; “High spirit and confidence are crucial to overcome the crisis. As a “Big Petrol Ofisi Family”, we are at our country’s and its people’s disposal through our 3,223 gas stations and 1,100 employees in the remotest corners of Turkey . Despite the economic crisis, we carry on our investments planned previously diligently”.

How did the year 2008 pass for Petrol Ofisi?

  • The number of active users of Positive Card which set out in order to be the most common customer liability program in Turkey has exceeded 1.5 million within a year and the number of daily transactions made through Positive Card has reached 90,000.
  • V/MAX Unleaded Gasoline 97 with high-octane that provides also fuel economy as a result of Petrol Ofisi vision which focuses on customer satisfaction when developing its products and services, attracted considerable attention from customers.
  • Investments valued at approximately USD 200 million were made within the scope of new station investments, station transfers, agreement renewals and automation studies in 2008.
  • Petrol Ofisi station network development activities were carried out in order to make improvements devoted to customer demands and enhancement of the service quality in the existing stations; and equipments in approximately 300 stations were improved in 2008. Sales were increased over 10% in the stations where equipments were improved.
  • In addition to the equipment improvements, application-improvement projects were carried out in approximately 600 stations. We organized intensive trainings in these stations within the scope of the application-improvement project and we boosted the sales through local promotions thanks to the contributions of Petrol Ofisi and dealers.
  • Thanks to Maxima Engine Oil Change Centers launched by Petrol Ofisi throughout Turkey, retail sales of lubricants increased by up to 250% in PO stations. 
  • Petrol Ofisi continued to render R&D, quality control and analysis services to the many Turkish and foreign companies among which world’s giants existed in the PO Technology Centre (POTEM) which is the most comprehensive research centre of Turkey and the region where fuel and lubricant products are developed.
  • After the AutoMatic System which provides easy payment, saving and control advantages especially for the corporate customers was launched in 2003, it extended at a great rate and reached 6,500 customers at the end of 2008. AutoMatic which is valid in 1,350 stations existing in every corner of Turkey is the most common loyalty program applied in the fuel sector in Turkey.
  • Petrol Ofisi, conducting a campaign with the world’s leader truck manufacturer which would make the fleet owners happy, provided exclusive advantages to the companies that will purchase tow-trucks and trucks if they are affiliated with the AutoMatic Fleet Management System.
  • Petrol Ofisi covered educational expenses of many students in Kars, Muğla, İzmir, Ağrı and Tekirdağ as part of the “Father Send Me to School Project” carried out with the leadership of Milliyet Newspaper and the Association in Support of Contemporary Living; and total number of these students reached 500.
  • Petrol Ofisi which has supported Turkish football since 2004 as the ‘Official Sponsor’ of the A National Football Team and National Football teams did not leave our national team alone which took part in EURO 2008 European Football Championship.
  • Petrol Ofisi signed a strategic partnership alliance with the Community Volunteers Association (TOG) in order to support young people and their projects who represent our country’s bright future.
